BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said the medical board has not yet taken any decision on sending BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia abroad for treatment.
He made the remarks on Sunday afternoon at an emergency press conference held at the party’s central office in Naya Paltan.
At the time, Rizvi presented updated information on Khaleda Zia’s physical condition and provided guidance on the party’s decisions and initiatives.
Rizvi said Khaleda Zia’s physical state remains unchanged and no move can be made about taking her abroad without the board’s recommendation.
He announced that the party has postponed its Victory Day programmes due to the BNP chairperson’s hospitalisation and sought prayers from the nation for her speedy recovery.
Rizvi urged leaders, activists and members of the public not to gather in front of Evercare Hospital, saying excessive crowds interrupt medical procedures. “Please do not gather at the hospital. Pray from wherever you are,” he said.
He added that party leaders are in constant communication with her doctors, who are providing updates on her condition.
Khaleda Zia, a three-time former prime minister, has been undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital since the night of 23 November.
Doctors later confirmed an infection in her lungs. She was initially treated in a cabin with ICU support but has since been moved to the Critical Care Unit (CCU).
Her personal physician and BNP Standing Committee member AZM Zahid Hossain said on Saturday night that if her body continues to respond to treatment at the current rate, she is expected to recover soon.
