The Amputee Football League 2025 will take place in Dhaka on Monday and Tuesday, 1 and 2 December, as part of the celebrations for the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, marking the first time such a competition has been held in Bangladesh.
Organised with the support of Sports for Hope Independence and the International Committee of the Red Cross, the league will feature four boys’ teams and two girls’ teams. All matches will be played at the disability sports ground near Asad Gate beside the Parliament complex.
The opening day will run from 11am to 5pm with the group stage fixtures. The knockout phase and final will be held on Tuesday, followed by a prize giving ceremony for the winners.
Organisers described the league as a significant step for disability sport in Bangladesh, emphasising its social impact as much as its competitive value. They said the aim is to provide “a platform that keeps persons with disabilities engaged in competitive activity, showcases their abilities and achievements to the nation, and helps remove the despair that can define their daily lives”.
The two day event is expected to highlight both the sporting potential and wider contribution of athletes with disabilities, offering visibility and opportunity in a format never previously staged in the country.
