The Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges has decided to increase bus fares by 17 paisa per kilometre, following the rise in fuel prices.
Information officer Nobel Dey said Tuesday that the decision was announced after a meeting with transport owners at the ministry.
He also said that owners had proposed a higher increase, but the ministry settled on 17 paisa per kilometre.
Long‑distance bus fares have gone up from Tk2.23 to Tk2.40 per kilometre. In Dhaka and Chattogram metropolitan areas, fares have risen from Tk2.53 to Tk2.70 per kilometre.
A notification on the fare hike will be issued shortly, the official said.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Road Transport Owners’ Association said fares in Dhaka and inter‑district routes have been raised by 0.17 paisa per kilometre compared to previous rates.
