Measles situation in Bangladesh remains concerning, with 169 deaths attributed to the disease and its symptoms over a 27-day period from 15 March to 11 April.
According to the latest data from the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the death toll includes 24 laboratory-confirmed measles cases and 145 suspected cases.
In the 24 hours leading up to 8am on Saturday, two further deaths were recorded: one confirmed measles fatality in Dhaka division and one suspected death in Sylhet division.
During this 24-hour reporting period, 888 new suspected cases were identified across the country. This brings the total number of suspected measles cases to 14,385 since 15 March. Laboratory tests confirmed 80 new infections in the last day, raising the total number of confirmed cases to 2,489.
Regional data indicates that Dhaka division is the most affected area, recording 445 new suspected cases in the last 24 hours and a total of 1,350 confirmed cases since mid-March,. The division has also seen 11 confirmed measles deaths to date. Meanwhile, Rajshahi division reported 212 new suspected cases in the last day, with its total confirmed cases reaching 759,.
Regarding hospitalisations, 9,463 suspected patients have been admitted to hospitals since the start of the outbreak. Of these, 7,022 individuals have been discharged following their recovery.
The DGHS stated that it is continuously monitoring the situation through its Integrated Control Centre, which is involved in the regular collection and analysis of data. Health authorities have urged citizens to remain alert and seek immediate medical advice if any symptoms of the disease appear.
