Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain FakiInspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir on Saturday called upon students to help enhance Bangladesh’s global image through merit, intellectual development and positive thinking.
He made this call as the chief guest while addressing the ‘IGP Scholarship-2025’ presentation ceremony, organised by the association on Saturday morning at the BRPOWA Complex seminar hall in Rajarbagh, the capital.
The event was presided over by M Akbar Ali, President of the association and retired Additional IGP Kimia Saadat, Managing Director of Community Bank, attended the programme as a special guest.
Yasmin Gafur, Vice-President of the association and retired Additional IGP, delivered the welcome address and moderated the session. Other speakers included Md Abul Hossain from APBN School and College and Md Faruk Hossain, a teacher at Rajarbagh Police Lines School and College.
The ceremony was also attended by the association’s Vice-Presidents Md Abdur Rahman Khan and Md Mokhlesur Rahman (both retired Additional IGPs), alongside association members, teachers, and students.
Addressing the awardees, the IGP stated that in addition to acquiring knowledge, students must work for the welfare of the country and its people. He urged them to develop a mindset of knowing and obeying the law, maintaining positive thoughts, and prioritising social welfare over personal interests to collectively build a beautiful Bangladesh.
Regarding police discipline, the IGP warned that no member of the Bangladesh Police will be spared if they commit a crime. He asserted that appropriate legal action would be taken against them and expressed confidence that the police force would bounce back. He further announced that the Sadar Thana (Headquarters Police Station) of every district has been declared a ‘Zero Complaint’ station.
Expressing gratitude and thanks to the retired police officers, the IGP suggested that, alongside providing scholarships, the association should undertake income-generating initiatives for the students.
During the event, at the IGP’s request, three students shared their views on the topic “The Police We Want”. The students—Soumik Sarkar Durjoy of Shaheed Police Smriti College, Mahin Al Hossain of Rajarbagh Police Lines School and College, and Mahzabin Jerin Puspita of APBN School and College—expressed their desire for a friendly and people-oriented police force.
In his presidential speech, M Akbar Ali emphasised that police members must maintain good behaviour with the general public.
The IGP Scholarship-2025 was awarded to 400 students from schools and colleges managed by the Bangladesh Police who achieved GPA-5 in the 2025 SSC and HSC examinations. The scholarships were funded by the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) wing of Community Bank.
During the ceremony, 100 students from Rajarbagh Police Lines School and College, Shaheed Police Smriti College, and APBN School and College in Dhaka were presented with scholarships, crests, and certificates. The remaining 300 students will receive their awards through their respective Superintendents of Police (SPs).
