Measles claims 5 more lives in 24 hours

Five more children have died from measles and its symptoms across the country in the past 24 hours, according to the Health Directorate.

During the same period, 1,358 new children showed symptoms of the disease.

The information was released in a routine bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services on Monday.

The health authority said four children died in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Khulna and Sylhet divisions, with one death reported from each division in the last 24 hours. In addition, one more child died from confirmed measles in Sylhet division during the same period.

In the last 24 hours, 90 new measles cases were confirmed across the country. At the same time, 1,358 children showed symptoms of the disease.

Since 15 March, a total of 33,386 children have shown symptoms of measles. During the same period, 4,693 children have been confirmed with measles.

According to the health bulletin, 22,442 children have been hospitalised with measles symptoms since March 15. Of them, 19,018 children have recovered and been discharged from hospitals so far.
