Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe suffered a muscle overload in his left hamstring during a 1-1 LaLiga draw against Real Betis on Friday, after requesting a substitution late in the match, with further tests set to determine the extent of the issue.
Mbappe reported discomfort in the final 10 minutes and left the pitch before the game ended. The incident adds uncertainty ahead of upcoming fixtures as Madrid sit eight points behind leaders Barcelona.
“I have no idea (how Mbappe is), he had some discomfort and we will see how it develops in the coming days,” said coach Alvaro Arbeloa. He confirmed the lack of immediate clarity and indicated that the club will rely on medical assessment.
Early indications suggest the issue does not appear serious, but Madrid will complete further checks before confirming availability. The timing places focus on the next league match against Espanyol and the following El Clasico against Barcelona.
Mbappe has scored 24 goals in 28 league appearances this season and remains Madrid’s primary attacking outlet. Any absence would affect their attacking structure, which relies on his movement and finishing in central areas.
Elsewhere, Lamine Yamal sustained a hamstring injury earlier in the week, ruling him out for the remainder of the season, although he is expected to recover in time for the World Cup.
