Bangladesh have added Marco Bonofiglio to the national football team’s coaching staff as assistant coach. The Italian coach arrived in Dhaka on Sunday night and joined the team camp.
The assistant coach role had drawn attention after Javier Cabrera left the national team. Mohammad Hasan Al Mamun worked as assistant coach during Cabrera’s four year spell with Bangladesh.
Many supporters wanted changes in the coaching setup after Cabrera’s exit. Some asked for a new assistant coach, while others wanted a foreign coach to join the staff.
BFF sources said new head coach Thomas Dooley had a role in the decision. The federation brought Bonofiglio into the setup following discussions with the new coach.
Bangladesh have already started preparations for the FIFA international friendly against San Marino on June 5. The team completed its first training session under Dooley on Monday.
BFF also announced a 30 member squad on Monday morning. Squad announcements had become unclear during the final period of Cabrera’s time in charge. At times, the media did not receive official squad details even after training had started.
Goalkeeper Zico has also returned to the national team setup after missing out in recent squads.
