The trial of the brutal murder of child Ramisa in Pallabi will begin on 1 June, Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman said on Monday, announcing that tribunals handling such cases will remain open despite the scheduled court vacation.
The main accused was arrested within just seven hours of the incident and gave a confessional statement under Section 164 within 24 hours, the minister told journalists in Damurhuda, Chuadanga, where he attended the 127th birth anniversary celebrations of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.
The minister said the charge sheet in the case was submitted within a week. Although courts will be closed from 1 June to 15 June, the government has decided, after consulting with the Supreme Court, to keep the Women and Children Repression Suppression Tribunals open.
“As a result, the trial proceedings of this case will begin from June 1,” he said.
Regarding the recent attack on Nasiruddin Patwary, the law minister said the local conduct was “undesirable and indecent.” He added that the incident is being evaluated politically.
The three-day programme in Damurhuda, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Lutfun Nahar, featured a discussion session, cultural programme, and prize distribution.
Among those present were Chuadanga District Police Superintendent Mohammad Ruhul Kabir Khan, District BNP General Secretary Sharifuzzaman Sharif, and local residents.
