Yasin Khan Palash, who was shot and critically injured in Dhaka’s West Rampura on 12 June, has died at Evercare Hospital.

Family members confirmed he died around 12:45am.

Police said Palash, popularly known as “Kailla Palash,” was a criminal. He was released from prison only one month and 15 days ago after serving 25 years in a murder case.

The incident took place at approximately 1:45pm on 12 June in front of the Royal Mishti Dokan. Palash was returning to his residence after performing Jummah prayers at the Muktir Goli Mosque when he was targeted.

Two youths had been waiting at the entrance of Makki Masjid Goli, opposite the TV Centre, according to the police.

As one of the assailants opened fire, local residents attempted to chase them. However, the gunmen managed to escape on a motorcycle that had been parked a short distance away. Palash was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) by his housekeeper Ibra Mia.

Palash sustained two bullet wounds to his head.
