A man was killed after being run over by a bus at Wireless Gate in the capital’s Hatirjheel area on Sunday evening.

The deceased AR Akhtarul Alam, 65, was declared dead at Dr Sirajul Islam Medical College Hospital in Malibagh after being taken there in critical condition around 6:30pm, police said.
Sub-Inspector Md Al Amin of Hatirjheel Police Station said the victim was crossing the road when he collided with a motorcycle.

A dispute then broke out between them, during which the motorcyclist allegedly pushed him to the ground.

He was subsequently run over by an Azmeri Glory Paribahan bus.

Bystanders rescued him and took him to hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Police said the motorcyclist was detained shortly after the incident, while the bus was seized.

However, the bus driver managed to flee the scene. The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

The deceased’s son, Imam Mehedi Porom, said the family originally hails from Bekutia village in Kaukhali upazila of Pirojpur district and currently lives in the DIT Project area of Merul Badda in Dhaka.

He said his father worked at a private company and that the family learned about the accident over the phone before identifying the body at the hospital.
