Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Ameer Maulana Mamunul Haque, a candidate of Dhaka-13 constituency, submitted a written explanation to the Election Commission (EC) on Saturday in response to a show-cause notice over alleged violations of the electoral code of conduct.
Mamunul Haque went to the Election Commission office in Agargaon around 10am to submit his reply.
Speaking to journalists afterward, he claimed he had been a victim of misreporting.
“The reports published about me are incorrect,” he said. “I distributed leaflets urging people to vote ‘Yes’ in the referendum, but I did not campaign in my own constituency. Despite this, misleading information has been circulated.”
He said the Election Commission would take a decision after reviewing his written explanation.
On 14 January, Returning Officer Yunus Ali served the show-cause notice on Mamunul Haque, citing alleged violations of the electoral code of conduct for political parties and candidates. The notice followed media reports alleging that he had conducted election campaigning in Agargaon.
