Bangladeshi Major General Mohammad Asadullah Minhazul Alam has been appointed as the Force Commander of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced on Wednesday.
Minhazul Alam succeeds Major General Erdenebat Batsuuri, whose leadership of the mission was praised by Guterres for its dedication and impact, according to a UN statement.
The Bangladeshi officer “brings to the position over 30 years of leadership and command experience in the Bangladesh Army,” the statement said.
Most recently, Alam served with the Army Training and Doctrine Command and previously led the 10th Infantry Division while overseeing operations in Cox’s Bazar.
Throughout his career, the major general has held a range of command and staff positions across infantry units, with responsibilities spanning counterterrorism, internal security, disaster response, and intelligence-driven operations, the statement added.
