Mahira Khan and Wahaj Ali are set to share the screen for the first time in Green Entertainment’s upcoming drama Mitti de Baway, whose trailer was released on Tuesday.
Khan plays Billo, a seemingly lovestruck young woman who later transforms into a cold-hearted spiritual leader.
Ali plays Baala, her former love interest, who returns after serving time in prison with a tougher persona, toned physique and apparent expertise with firearms.
The trailer begins in 1998, where Billo is shown as a 19-year-old who falls for Baala. However, Baala’s family carries a curse that prevents its members from finding lasting love.
He eventually lands in prison for an undisclosed crime, while Billo’s life takes an unexpected turn.
Years later, Billo has grown into a pir, or spiritual guide, leading a group of devotees.
Her transformation appears to have changed her feelings towards Baala as well.
The story then jumps to 2002, when Baala is released from prison. He emerges tougher and more dangerous, with the trailer showing him handling firearms and shooting at people.
In one intense sequence, he is also seen being shot in the back.
Meanwhile, Billo appears to have developed a deep disdain for her former lover.
“I am bari sarkaar now and only a man my equal will suit me,” she says in the trailer.
The two are eventually reunited, hinting at a complicated relationship that could evolve from lovers to enemies and possibly back to lovers.
However, the makers have not revealed further details about the storyline.
Directed by Syed Wajahat Hussain and written by Faiza Iftikhar, Mitti de Baway is being billed as an action-packed drama.
Green Entertainment has not announced a release date yet, with the channel simply stating that the show is “coming soon”.
