MASTUL Foundation has organised its ‘Zakat Self-Reliance’ programme in Shibganj Upazila, Bogura, with the aim of creating sustainable self-employment opportunities for underprivileged and able-bodied individuals and helping them achieve economic independence.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam as the chief guest, read a press release.
Speaking at the event, Mir Shahe Alam said, “Zakat is not merely about providing charity or temporary assistance. When properly managed, it can create employment opportunities and enable people to become self-reliant.
“MASTUL Foundation’s ‘Zakat Self-Reliance’ programme can play an important role in bringing sustainable change to the lives of underprivileged people.”
During the programme, MA Akmal Hossain Azad, chief executive officer of MASTUL Foundation, and the Honourable State Minister personally handed over livelihood support materials, essential tools, and resources to selected beneficiaries to support their efforts towards becoming self-reliant.
This initiative aims to create income-generating opportunities for underprivileged and able-bodied individuals, enabling them to earn a sustainable livelihood and build a path towards financial independence.
MASTUL Foundation stated that humanitarian support should go beyond providing temporary relief. Creating opportunities for people to stand on their own feet is one of the most effective ways to bring about lasting change.
Through the proper utilisation of Zakat funds, the ‘Zakat Self-Reliance’ programme seeks to create long-term economic opportunities and improve the lives of disadvantaged individuals.
Local public representatives, government officials, distinguished community members, media professionals, and local residents were also present at the event.
MASTUL Foundation believes that a self-reliant and compassionate society can be built by unlocking people’s abilities, skills, and potential, and empowering them to become economically independent.
Guided by this vision, the organisation continues to implement the ‘Zakat Self-Reliance’ programme and a range of other humanitarian and social development initiatives across Bangladesh.
MASTUL Foundation is a non-profit, non-political humanitarian organisation registered with the NGO Affairs Bureau under the Prime Minister’s Office of Bangladesh. For over a decade, it has been serving underprivileged people through humanitarian and development initiatives.
Its key activities include emergency relief during the floods of 2022, 2024, and 2026; dignified burial services during the COVID-19 pandemic; nationwide tree plantation campaigns; the “Zakat Self-Reliance” project; tube well installation; mosque reconstruction; and the “Mehmankhana” initiative, which provides free daily meals in Dhaka.
The foundation has also delivered humanitarian aid to Türkiye, Gaza, and Sudan, and operates a madrasa, shelter home, and orphanage in Hazaribagh, Dhaka.
