A legal notice was sent to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Tuesday over a non-participation and withdrawal clause announced on November 3 by the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM). The clause states that clubs failing to participate fully or withdrawing partially or entirely would face immediate disqualification and relegation.
The move has created uncertainty in club cricket, as eight of the 20 First Division clubs, including Dhaka Premier League sides Abahani and Mohammedan, boycotted the player transfer process. The First Division league is set to start on November 18.
The notice, drafted by Rafiqul Babu and addressed to BCB president Aminul Islam, CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury, and CCDM chairman Adnan Rahman, calls the clause ‘unlawful and unauthorized’ and demands an impartial investigation into the BCB elections, asking for results to be suspended. It also claims that clubs were not consulted before the rule was announced.
A club representative said the letter was handed to the BCB CEO, who could not be reached for comment.
