Seven people died with suspected measles across Bangladesh in the 24 hours leading up to 8am on 10 September, bringing the total death toll to 1,009.
During the same 24-hour period, 1,165 new suspected measles cases were identified, while 29 cases were confirmed.
These figures were released by Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in a press release issued on Thursday, covering data compiled between 8am on Wednesday and 8am on Thursday.
Between 15 March and 10 September, Bangladesh recorded a cumulative total of 168,745 suspected measles cases and 19,933 confirmed cases.
Out of the 1,009 total fatalities reported during this period, 909 were among suspected measles patients and 100 were confirmed measles deaths.
In the latest 24-hour window, Dhaka recorded the highest number of new suspected cases at 421, followed by Chattogram with 262, Sylhet with 153, Barishal with 116, Khulna with 89, Mymensingh with 82, Rajshahi with 28, and Rangpur with 14.
During this same period, three deaths from suspected measles occurred in Dhaka, whilst Sylhet, Rajshahi, Chattogram, and Khulna reported one death each.
Division-wise statistics from 15 March to 10 September show that Dhaka recorded the highest cumulative total of 72,459 suspected cases. Among them, 12,224 were confirmed measles cases, and 407 suspected patients died.
Chattogram identified 33,198 suspected cases, of which 2,711 were confirmed, alongside 66 deaths among suspected patients.
Cumulative suspected cases in other divisions were recorded as 18,476 in Barishal, 12,541 in Sylhet, 10,936 in Khulna, 10,019 in Rajshahi, 8,150 in Mymensingh, and 2,966 in Rangpur.
On the immunisation front, 19,755,312 doses of the vaccine have been administered under National Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign against a target of 18,015,064 doses. This places the national vaccination coverage at 109.7 per cent.
By division, Mymensingh achieved the highest vaccination coverage at 115 per cent, followed by Chattogram at 112.6 per cent, Dhaka at 110.4 per cent, Rangpur at 109.8 per cent, Rajshahi at 108 per cent, Khulna at 105 per cent, and both Barishal and Sylhet at 104.4 per cent each.
According to DGHS figures, a total of 148,505 suspected measles patients were admitted to hospitals between 15 March and 10 September, while 142,888 patients were discharged after receiving treatment during the same period.
