Mehidy Hasan Miraz made an immediate impact on his Caribbean Premier League debut, claiming three wickets to help Guyana Amazon Warriors beat Saint Lucia Kings by six wickets.
The Bangladesh allrounder finished with 3 for 13 from four overs, striking at crucial moments to disrupt Saint Lucia’s batting after they had made a brisk start.
Miraz entered the attack in the seventh over and broke the second-wicket partnership by dismissing John Campbell, who was caught at long-off while attempting to hit a six. He returned for his third over and struck twice, trapping Kemol Savory lbw before removing Charith Asalanka with the final ball of the over.
His spell came after Saint Lucia had reached 51 for 1 in the powerplay and helped put Guyana in control. They eventually restricted Saint Lucia to 119, with Imran Tahir also taking five wickets.
The performance marked an encouraging start to Miraz’s first CPL campaign. He said the pitch offered some assistance to the spinners and that sticking to the right areas was the key to his success. “There was some spin on the wicket. I just tried to bowl in the right areas, and that worked for me,” he said.
Miraz could not make a similar impact with the bat, scoring one off four balls during the chase before being caught by Charith Asalanka off Roston Chase.
Guyana completed the chase with nine balls to spare, with Quinton Sampson’s unbeaten 37 off 11 balls finishing the job.
The victory took Guyana to seven wins from eight matches and 14 points, keeping them at the top of the CPL table.
