Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman on Saturday called on judges to uphold justice by making responsible and fair decisions, assuring them that the government stands firmly behind them.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 20th Orientation Course for Additional District and Sessions Judges at the Judicial Administration Training Institute (JATI) in Dhaka, the minister emphasised the judiciary’s crucial role in strengthening public confidence.
“You, who serve as judges, must always strive to make the right decisions,” he said. “On behalf of the government, we are saying -ensure justice, and we are with you.”
Md Asaduzzaman highlighted the government’s commitment to reinforcing trust in the judicial system. “The people have entrusted us with a mandate, and the government will always support you in upholding justice in society,” he added.
Referring to prime minister’s guidance, he said, “Our honourable prime minister often reminds us that our work is about responsibility and making the right decisions, not seeking popularity. In every situation, we must choose the right path.”
The law minister also reflected on his personal accountability, saying he remains fully aware of his responsibilities and limitations. “I have never stepped back, nor will I ever step back, from fulfilling the duties entrusted to me,” he added.
He warned that any form of corruption would not be tolerated, urging judges to remain vigilant in safeguarding the integrity of the judiciary. “Failing to do so would undermine decades of collective efforts to ensure justice for the people of Bangladesh. It would also jeopardize the rule of law and human rights,” he said.
Md Asaduzzaman added, “We must ensure that the next generation does not inherit the burden of our failures.”
The event was chaired by JATI Director General Md Emdadul Haque and attended by members of the Law Commission, judicial trainees, officials and staff of the Bangladesh Judicial Administration and Training Institute, and members of the media.
