Bangladesh lost their final six wickets for 112 runs and finished on 413 in 117.1 overs against Pakistan on the second day of the first Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. Mushfiqur Rahim top-scored with 71 on his 39th birthday, while Taskin Ahmed struck a late 28 from 19 balls to push the total beyond 400.
Bangladesh resumed on 301 for four with Mushfiqur unbeaten on 48 and Litton Das on eight. Mushfiqur played patiently through the opening session and reached his 29th Test fifty from 114 balls. Litton attacked from the other end and struck three straight boundaries off Shaheen Shah Afridi early in the day.
Pakistan struggled to control the scoring rate but Mohammad Abbas kept removing set batters. Litton fell for 33 after trying to loft Abbas over mid-on. Mehidy Hasan Miraz lasted only 12 balls before Imam-ul-Haq caught him at gully. Taijul Islam then edged a short ball through to Mohammad Rizwan after scoring 17.
Mushfiqur carried the innings through the session and went to lunch unbeaten on 71. He looked set for his 14th Test century, but Shaheen removed him in the first over after the break. The left-arm quick angled a full delivery through the gap between bat and pad and hit the stumps.
Pakistan quickly moved through the lower order after Mushfiqur’s dismissal. Bangladesh still crossed 400 because Taskin counter-attacked late in the innings. The fast bowler hit three fours and a six in his 19-ball knock before Pakistan wrapped up the innings.
Bangladesh added only 112 runs on the second day after starting from a strong overnight position. Abbas led Pakistan’s bowling effort during the morning session and stopped Bangladesh from building any major partnerships.
