Al-Arafah Islami Bank PLC has appointed Badiur Rahman as Chairman and Alhajj Salim Rahman as Chairman of its Executive Committee, following a decision by the bank’s Board of Directors at its 464th (Emergency) meeting on 16 July 2026.
The appointments were approved unanimously as the bank moves to strengthen its leadership structure, with Badiur Rahman, a Sponsor Director of Al-Arafah Islami Bank, taking charge as chairman and Alhajj Salim Rahman assuming the role of Executive Committee chairman, said in a press release.
Badiur Rahman is a prominent businessman with local and international interests. He also serves as a director of AIBL Capital Market Services Ltd, Central Hospital Ltd, Human Resources Development Company Ltd, Millennium Information Solution Ltd and HURDCO International School.
He is also associated with several social welfare organisations.
Badiur Rahman said he had previously taken responsibility as chairman of Al-Arafah Islami Bank in 2008 when the bank was under the supervision of an observer appointed by Bangladesh Bank.
He said the bank overcame those challenges with the support and cooperation of stakeholders and achieved sustained growth during his eight-year tenure as chairman.
“Bangladesh Bank has once again appointed an observer to Al-Arafah Islami Bank in 2026, and at this challenging juncture I have been entrusted with the responsibility of leading the Board once again,” he said.
He added that he would work with the Board, management, employees, regulators and stakeholders with sincerity, dedication and integrity to help the bank recover, regain momentum and return to a path of sustainable growth.
Alhajj Salim Rahman, the newly appointed Executive Committee chairman, comes from a prominent business family in Chattogram. His father, Alhajj Khalilur Rahman, is the founder of KDS Group, one of the country’s largest industrial groups.
Salim Rahman is currently Managing Director of KDS Group, which comprises KDS Garments Division, KDS Accessories Division, KDS Textile Division, KDS Steel Division, KDS Logistic Division and KDS Finance & Investment Division.
