Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have recovered a significant quantity of illicit substances, including 27,220 Indian Dexon tablets and 42 bottles of liquor, during a raid at the Sharsha border in Jessore.
The operation was conducted on Saturday night by the 21st BGB Battalion at the Kayba border area. Despite the recovery of the contraband, the BGB was unable to apprehend any smugglers during the drive.
According to Lt Col Nafiz Imtiaz Ahsan, commanding officer of the 21st BGB Battalion, intelligence surveillance at the border had been intensified following secret information regarding a potential smuggling ring.
During the operation, BGB personnel pursued a group of suspected smugglers, who managed to flee the scene, abandoning a bag in the process. A subsequent search of the bag led to the discovery of the narcotics and alcohol.
The BGB official further asserted that such anti-smuggling operations will continue in order to eliminate the trafficking of drugs and other illegal goods across the national borders
