At least two people were killed and 12 others injured in a three-bus collision on the Sylhet-Dhaka Highway early Saturday morning.
The accident occurred around 6:30am near Dayamir Madrasa in Osmani Nagar upazila.
Md Morshedul Hasan Bhuiya, officer-in-charge of Osmani Nagar Police Station, confirmed the incident and said the identities of the deceased are yet to be verified.
Eyewitnesses reported that a bus of Ena Paribahan from Dhaka collided head-on with a Shyamoli bus coming from Sylhet.
A third bus of Unique Paribahan, which was trailing the Ena Paribahan bus, was also involved in the collision. The front sections of the Ena and Shyamoli buses were badly damaged, and two people died on the spot.
Rescue teams from Tajpur Fire Service, Osmani Nagar police, and highway police rushed to the scene to rescued the victims.
The injured were taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for treatment.
The accident caused severe traffic congestion on the highway, with vehicles backed up for several kilometres.
Authorities managed to restore normal traffic flow around 10am.
