Lana Del Rey has made an unexpected yet fitting entry into the world of espionage glamour, unveiling the official theme song for the upcoming video game 007 First Light.
The surprise release marks her long-awaited collaboration with the iconic James Bond franchise, alongside veteran Bond composer David Arnold.
Developed by IO Interactive in partnership with Amazon MGM Studios, 007 First Light reimagines the origin story of the legendary spy. The narrative follows a 26-year-old Bond at the very beginning of his journey, offering a fresh take on the formative years of the character.
Del Rey’s theme track leans heavily into the franchise’s signature sonic identity, opening with a sultry, atmospheric tone before swelling into dramatic orchestration of horns and strings. A subtle nod to the classic Bond motif anchors the composition, blending nostalgia with a contemporary sensibility. The result is a track that feels unmistakably “Bond,” while still carrying Del Rey’s distinct melancholic elegance.
The project also boasts a notable cast. Lenny Kravitz takes on the role of villain Bawma, opposite Patrick Gibson as the young Bond. Supporting roles include Priyanga Burford as M, Lennie James as mentor John Greenway, and Gemma Chan among others, reinforcing the game’s cinematic ambition.
Originally slated for a March release, the game was delayed to May 27 to allow further polishing, a move that underscores IO Interactive’s intent to deliver a refined Bond gaming experience. The title sequence featuring Del Rey’s song is set to premiere on April 17, building anticipation ahead of launch.
Arnold emphasised the importance of music in shaping the Bond identity, noting that a title song must “intrigue, excite, and beckon” audiences into its world. IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak
