Pop superstar Lady Gaga is trading the stage for the silver screen once again, as she joins the cast of the highly anticipated sequel to the 2006 hit comedy ‘The Devil Wears Prada’, Variety reports. The Oscar and Grammy winner is fitting in filming amid her ongoing Mayhem Ball Tour.
Following four sold-out nights at London’s O2 Arena, Gaga was spotted in Milan, where the sequel is currently shooting. This marks her first major film role since ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’, after a cameo on Netflix’s ‘Wednesday’ earlier this year. Gaga is scheduled to perform at Stockholm’s Avicii Arena on Sunday.
Based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel, the original film follows aspiring journalist Andrea Sachs, played by Anne Hathaway, who lands a job at the high-profile fashion magazine Runway, only to come under the exacting eye of editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly, portrayed by Meryl Streep. Emily Blunt also stars as Andy’s one-time colleague, adding to the power dynamics of the fashion world.
While plot details for the sequel are under wraps, reports suggest Miranda navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing, facing off against Emily, now a high-powered luxury group executive. Hathaway’s Andy appears to be returning to the fashion scene after leaving Runway for a newspaper in the first film.
Streep and Stanley Tucci were recently spotted at Dolce & Gabbana during Milan Fashion Week, where Streep and Anna Wintour shared a memorable first meeting that quickly went viral.
David Frankel and Aline Brosh McKenna, who directed and wrote the original film, return for the sequel, with producer Karen Rosenfelt also on board. New cast additions include Kenneth Branagh as Miranda’s husband, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, BJ Novak, Pauline Chalamet, and Simone Ashley. Tibor Feldman and Tracie Thoms will reprise their original roles.
20th Century Studios is set to release ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ on May 1, 2026, nearly two decades after the original, which captivated audiences.
