Khulna University has dismissed Md Rezaul Islam, professor of the Agrotechnology Discipline, following sexual harassment allegations.
The Syndicate also formed a five‑member committee to investigate similar charges against Md Rubel Ansar of the Bengali Discipline.
The decisions came at the university’s 237th Syndicate meeting, Acting Registrar SM Mahbubur Rahman confirmed Thursday evening.
The committee was set up based on a report from the Sexual Harassment Prevention and Redressal Centre and instructed to submit findings within 30 working days. The measures follow weeks of student unrest.
Protesters boycotted classes, exams and administrative work, demanding justice over harassment allegations and a separate case involving secret filming of female students by a canteen worker.
On Thursday, they locked academic buildings after talks with authorities failed. The buildings were reopened late Saturday after the administration expressed solidarity with student demands, though students later vowed not to resume academic activities until all demands were met.
Their key demands include permanent expulsion of Rezaul Islam and Rubel Ansar, cancellation of the “Spondon‑24” club’s registration, maximum punishment for canteen worker Imam Hasan, and accountability for the Bijoy ’24 Hall provost body.
Hasan was arrested last Wednesday night for allegedly filming female students in washrooms and bathrooms; his wife was also detained.
Rezaul Islam had earlier been removed as head of Agrotechnology after allegations on 18 June that he sent indecent messages to a female student.
Rubel Ansar faced two harassment complaints in August last year; he was cleared of one but barred from academic and administrative duties for two years over the other.
