The Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association (BAJUS) has raised gold prices in the local market by Tk2,216 per bhori just three days after the last adjustment.
Under the new rates, which became effective at 10am on Friday, a bhori (11.664 grams) of 22-carat gold will now cost Tk223,074, including VAT.
In a press release issued on Friday morning, BAJUS stated that the price revision was necessitated by an increase in the price of pure gold (Tejabi gold) in the local market.
According to the revised price list, 21-carat gold is now priced at Tk213,043 per bhori, 18-carat gold at Tk182,950, and gold sold under the traditional method at Tk149,474 per bhori.
The association clarified that these prices will remain in effect across all jewellery establishments until further notice. While making charges (wages) will be applied based on the complexity of the ornament’s design, retailers are prohibited from collecting VAT separately from customers, as it is already integrated into the final sales price.
The previous BAJUS regulations regarding the exchange and purchase of gold – calculated by excluding specific VAT, wages, and stones – remain unchanged.
This latest hike follows a price reduction on Tuesday, when BAJUS had slashed the price of 22-carat gold by Tk2,216 to Tk220,857 per bhori.
With this latest update, gold prices in the domestic market have been adjusted a total of 97 times so far this year.
This includes 47 price hikes, 49 reductions, and one instance of VAT adjustment. In comparison, 2025 saw a total of 93 price adjustments, consisting of 64 hikes and 29 reductions.
