The Returning Officer in Khulna has rejected the nomination papers of 11 candidates across six parliamentary constituencies in Khulna during scrutiny, officials said on Sunday.

Most of the rejected candidates contested as independents. With the scrutiny process ending on Sunday, the number of valid candidates now stands at 35.

Khulna Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer ASM Jamshed Khondker said candidates whose nominations were rejected would have the right to appeal.

According to the Returning Officer’s office, three candidates each had their nominations cancelled in Khulna-1 and Khulna-3 constituencies. One candidate’s nomination was cancelled in Khulna-4. Two candidates each had their nominations cancelled in Khulna-5 and Khulna-6 constituencies.

Officials said Khulna-1 has the highest number of valid candidates, with 10 nominations cleared. Khulna-3 follows with nine valid candidates. Khulna-4, Khulna-5 and Khulna-6 each have four candidates whose nominations passed scrutiny.
The scrutiny process covered all six parliamentary seats in the district.
