A local journalist was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Shalua, Aronghata, Khulna on Wednesday night.
The deceased was identified as Emdadul Haq Milon, 45, who worked for an online news portal and served as secretary of the Aronghata Press Club.
According to police, Milon was sitting at a tea stall near Janata Bank in Shalua market around 9:20pm when four armed men on a motorcycle opened fire and fled the scene. Milon was immediately taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Another man named Deba, 43, who was present at the tea stall, sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Aronghata Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahjahan Ahmed confirmed the attack and said, “We have launched operations to apprehend the perpetrators. Further details will be provided after completing the investigation.”
