The Rapid Action Battalion arrested a 21-year-old prisoner on Sunday, three days after she escaped from the Kasimpur Women’s Central Jail in Gazipur.
The prisoner, identified as Mst Rimpa, was detained in the Mohammadpur area of the capital.
Rimpa escaped from the prison sometime on Thursday night. Prison authorities began searching for her at several locations after failing to find her inside the jail at around 8:00pm.
After confirming that she had escaped, the prison authorities filed a case with Konabari Police Station on Friday afternoon.
Prison sources said Rimpa is from the Raipur area of Gangni upazila in Meherpur. She had been serving a three-month jail sentence at the Kasimpur Women’s Central Jail following a ruling by a mobile court in Dhaka.
Following the escape, Konabari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Iftekhar Hossain said police had launched an operation to arrest the fugitive prisoner.
