Residents have besieged Savar regional office of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company, demanding an uninterrupted supply of gas to households. During the protest, they warned of tougher movement if the supply is not normalised within three days.
On Sunday, male and female residents from various parts of Savar joined a procession and gathered in front of Titas Gas regional office. They subsequently besieged the office and held a demonstration.
Protesters alleged that they have not received a regular gas supply for the past two months, which has severely disrupted daily cooking.
Many families have been forced to purchase food from hotels, while others are using wood-fired stoves. They said they were compelled to launch the movement as no effective solution had been provided despite their long-standing suffering.
Following the demonstration, a delegation of customers submitted a memorandum to Engineer Md Sakhawat Hossain, deputy managing director (Gazipur) of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company PLC.
The memorandum demanded that uninterrupted gas supply be ensured within three days, failing which a larger programme of movement would be announced.
Regarding the matter, Sakhawat said the residents’ issues are being treated with utmost importance. He added that they are making every effort to normalise the gas supply and that necessary measures will be taken to resolve the problem quickly.
