Miscreants shot dead a man inside a brick kiln in Naihati, Rupsha upazila of Khulna early Wednesday.
The deceased, Fakhrul Sheikh of Naihati village, was a former student leader of Rupsha College.
According to locals, Fakhrul was involved in politics as an activist of Jatiyotabadi Jubo Dal, the youth wing of the BNP.
The incident occurred around 1am at Rupsha Bricks kiln in Kismat Khulna village.
Fakhrul, the youngest among four brothers and one sister, leaves behind two daughters.
Relatives said the brick kiln belonged to his family. As thefts occurred there from time to time, he occasionally took night duty for security. On the night of the incident, assailants entered the kiln around 1am, shot him, and fled.
On receiving news of the shooting, Fakhrul’s elder brother Forhad Sheikh rushed to the site and found him lying injured. With the help of locals, he was taken to Rupsa Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.
Fakhrul sustained two bullet wounds — one in the neck, and another that entered below the right jaw and exited above the left ear.
The identity of the killers and the motive remain unknown.
