Police have detained 363 more people in a special drive against teen gangs in Cumilla, officials said.

The latest drive was conducted simultaneously across 18 police stations in the district from Friday evening until late at night.

In previous phases, police detained 624 individuals in the first drive, 254 in the second, 415 in the third and 379 in the fourth. With 363 detentions in the fifth phase, the total number of people has risen to 2,035.

The drives were led by Cumilla Superintendent of Police Md Anisuzzaman and involved personnel from 18 police stations, various district police units and the Detective Branch (DB).

Officers targeted crime-prone spots and locations known for teenage gang activity in Cumilla city and other police station areas across the district.

Police said the involvement of the detainees in criminal offences is being scrutinised, and necessary legal action will be taken if the allegations are verified.

District police said the regular operations are aimed at deterring young people from engaging in criminal activities, adding that strict monitoring is in place to ensure no innocent person is harassed.

The anti-juvenile crime drives will continue regularly, they added.
