Google has marked a major milestone with its Gemini app, which CEO Sundar Pichai announced via X has become one of the company’s fastest‑growing products, recently crossing 1 billion monthly active users. It is the 14th Google product to reach the billion‑user mark.
The surge puts Gemini in line with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which hit 1 billion monthly active users in June, reports TechCrunch.
Google has been steadily embedding Gemini across its ecosystem from Search and Workspace to Android and its standalone app.
The company’s AI Mode in Search has already achieved over 1 billion monthly active users globally, but the latest figure refers specifically to the Gemini app, excluding AI usage through other channels.
Alongside the growth, Google has continued rolling out new models and features. Among them is Gemini 3.5 Flash, which the company says is designed to enhance coding capabilities and autonomous AI‑agent tasks.
Google also shared usage data: 63 per cent of Gemini users interact with the assistant through voice, while the app now generates more than 150 million images daily. The company added that Gemini has more than 100 million active users on iOS.
The milestone follows Google’s Q2 2026 earnings call, where it reported over 950 million monthly users and a tripling of daily active users over the past year.
The announcement also comes ahead of the Made by Google event, where new Gemini‑powered features are expected to debut across Pixel devices.
