The financial allocation for research projects funded by Jahangirnagar University (JU) for its faculty members has been increased to a maximum of Tk1.5 lakh.
This decision was made at a meeting on Wednesday chaired by JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan, concerning the research project fund for the 2025-2026 fiscal year.
For the previous fiscal year (2024-2025), the allocation was increased by Tk39,000, bringing the total to Tk1,45,000, compared to Tk1,60,000 in the 2023-2024 fiscal year.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Kamrul Ahsan stated that although the increase in allocation is insufficient compared to the demand, it will encourage faculty members to engage more in research.
“Improving the quality of research is essential to elevate the university’s position in international rankings. To achieve this, the current administration is sincerely working to increase research funding and enhance incentives for researchers,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor also expressed his intention to increase financial incentives for publishing research in Scopus-indexed journals, nationally and internationally recognized journals, as well as publishing research articles and books in peer-reviewed journals.
The JU pro-VC for academic affairs Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman, pro-vice-chancellor for administrative affairs Sohel Ahmed, treasurer Md Abdur Rob, deans of various faculties, and director of the institutes, among others, addressed the meeting.
