The Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has expressed agreement with one of the three-point demands made by Gono Odhikar Parishad, which seeks to ban Jatiya Party, which has been an ally of the Awami League in recent years.
On Saturday evening, an 8-member delegation led by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Dr Mohammad Taher visited Dhaka Medical College Hospital to see Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nur.
At that time, he inquired about Nur’s treatment and spoke with his family. While leaving the hospital, he told the journalists present, “It must be investigated whether there is any ulterior motive behind this attack on Nur, and the government must uncover it.”
He said, “The role of the police and law enforcement agencies on Friday night reminded me of the oppression during the previous government’s tenure. Those who carried out this attack targeted Nur knowingly. There was prior preparation and conspiracy behind this. The government must see if there is any other motive. I do not see the government taking the necessary actions against the patrons of this incident. We strongly condemn and denounce this. Regarding the demand made by Gono Odhikar Parishad to ban the allies of the Awami League, we agree with it.“
Taher said, “Just as we dealt with India’s agents, if similar actions are needed now, this government will face many problems. We will discuss this attack and announce our programs accordingly.”
He also called for Nur to be taken abroad for treatment. The other two demands made by Gono Odhikar Parishad are: the establishment of an investigation committee and resignation of Home Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.
