Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman has stated that legal scrutiny will be conducted before any action is taken on the demand to ban the Jatiya Party (JaPa).
He made the remark while speaking to the media on Saturday afternoon, after inaugurating the regional office of National University in Jhenaidah.
Asaduzzaman further emphasised that the attack on Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur is not an isolated incident but part of a deep-rooted conspiracy.
He then added, “The demand to ban the Jatiya Party will be examined from a legal perspective before any steps are taken. The Jatiya Party betrayed the people, shedding blood between 1982 and 1990.
“They were Awami League collaborators during the July Uprising, revealing their sordid history once again.”
The attorney general’s remarks come amid growing calls to take action against the Jatiya Party following recent developments in the political landscape.
Referring to the assault on Nurul Haque Nur, Asaduzzaman described the attack as part of a larger plot, stating, “This was not an isolated incident. It is part of a well-coordinated conspiracy.”
Earlier in the day, at 10am, Asaduzzaman officially opened the National University’s regional office in Jhenaidah, located near the TV Center area on the Jhenaidah-Chuadanga highway. After the inauguration, an interactive session was held at the Keshab Chandra College in Jhenaidah, chaired by National University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr ASM Amanullah.
In the session, Nazim Uddin Ahmed, acting director of the National University’s Regional Centre Coordination Office, moderated the event.
Notable speakers included, Principal Dr Abu Bakr Siddique of Jhenaidah Government KC College, District Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Awal, District BNP President Advocate MA Majid, District Jamaat Ameer Professor Ali Azam Mohammad Abu Bakr, and Gono Odhikar Parishad’s District President Shakhawat Hossain.
A violent incident unfolded near the Jatiya Party office in Dhaka’s Kakrail area around 9:30pm on Saturday. Nurul Haque Nur was critically injured in the attack, and was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital by his party members, with reports confirming a severe head injury.
