Sajeeb Wazed Joy, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Salman F Rahman, and Anisul Huq are set to become accused this time in the case of crimes against humanity during the July mass uprising.
The investigating agency has submitted the investigation report to the prosecution. Prosecutor (Administration) Gazi MH Tamim confirmed this information on Wednesday. The prosecution will examine the report, and if preliminary veracity of the allegations is found, they will formally file charges in the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT).
The ICT has already issued an arrest warrant against Joy, the then prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Affairs adviser. Sources say that during the mass uprising of 2024, call records of conversations between Joy and the then state minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak have been found, revealing that Palak and Joy had discussed suppressing the mass uprising.
The investigation of the case was conducted considering Joy’s superior command responsibility as one of the masterminds behind the crimes during the July Uprising. Sources from the prosecution claim that he used his official position and status to try to suppress the mass uprising by shutting down the internet.
On 17 October, the tribunal issued arrest warrants against 45 individuals, including Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, in the crimes against humanity case. Joy is one of the accused among them.
Furthermore, investigations have also been conducted regarding former law minister Anisul Huq and former private sector adviser to the prime minister Salman F Rahman.
