The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) has started paying verified claims of capital market investors affected by the default of Moshihor Securities Limited, beginning a compensation process that will cover more than 17,300 affected clients of five brokerage firms.

The first phase began on Monday with cheque handovers to 15 Moshihor Securities clients whose complaints filed by 21 April 2026 were verified under a directive from the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC).

DSE will pay Tk42.73 crore to 9,386 verified claimants of Moshihor Securities from the Investors’ Protection Fund (IPF), with each claimant eligible for up to Tk5 lakh under the fund’s regulations.

The exchange will gradually compensate verified claims of affected capital market investors who were clients of other brokerage firms, including Banco Securities Limited, Crest Securities Limited, Tamha Securities Limited and Shah Mohammad Sagir & Co Limited.

DSE Chairman Mominul Islam said more than 17,300 verified claimants across the five brokerage firms would receive payments from the IPF.

Those whose full claims cannot be settled within the Tk5 lakh limit will be supported through legal recovery efforts, he said.

BSEC Chairman Masud Khan, who handed over cheques to the first group of claimants, said the payout marked the beginning of resolving a long-running problem faced by affected investors.

He said regulators and market institutions were working to prevent similar incidents by strengthening brokerage firms’ back-office systems, improving security and introducing real-time monitoring of clients’ funds held in bank and consolidated customer accounts.

“Strong monitoring and control have no alternative in the era of digital management,” Masud Khan said.

BSEC Commissioner Md Nafeez Al Tarik said protecting investors’ interests remained a priority in the regulator’s reforms and decisions.

BSEC Commissioner Hossain Sadat said resolving past irregularities required both compensation for affected investors and measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

IPF Chairman Nasrin Begum said payments were being made after verification of claims and supporting documents.

DSE shareholder Director Minhaj Mannan Emon said the initiative would provide relief to investors waiting to recover their money and help rebuild confidence in the capital market.

Under the Dhaka Stock Exchange (Investors’ Protection Fund) Regulations, 2014, DSE will continue processing verified claims and inform claimants about payment schedules and progress through SMS notifications, said DSE Managing Director Nuzhat Anwar.
