Dhaka University unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has extended greetings to students on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan and demanded improved food quality and affordable prices at residential hall canteens and campus eateries.
In a press release issued on Thursday, the organisation said Ramadan is a significant month for the Muslim Ummah, marked by self-restraint, sacrifice, compassion and spiritual purification.
“During this month, devout Muslims observe sehri and iftar and devote more time to prayers, which strengthens the bonds of brotherhood and unity” the press release says.
The release, however, expressed concern that, as in previous years, students may face difficulties due to poor food quality and high prices at hall canteens and various food outlets on campus during Ramadan.
It stressed that special measures are needed to ensure students’ comfort.
The statement, signed by DU JCD president Ganesh Chandra Roy Sahos and General Secretary Nahiduzzaman Shipon, conveyed sincere Ramadan greetings to students.
It also urged the university authorities to take effective steps to maintain food quality and set reasonable prices for sehri and iftar.
