Two professors from Jahangirnagar University (JU) and one from Dhaka University (DU) have been nominated as members of the first Syndicate of Dhaka Central University.
The Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education announced the nominations in an order issued on Monday.
The nominated JU teachers are Nahrin Islam Khan of the Department of Geography and Environment and Md Sohel Rana of the Department of Pharmacy, who is also the current Treasurer of JU
Md Morshed Hasan Khan of the Department of Marketing at Dhaka University has also been nominated to the Syndicate.
According to the ministry order, Nahrin Islam Khan has been nominated under the ‘Eminent Personality’ category, while Md Sohel Rana and Md Morshed Hasan Khan have been nominated under the ‘Distinguished Professor’ category.
The appointments were made with the approval of the President and Chancellor in accordance with Sections 24(1)(d), 24(6) and 24(3) of the Dhaka Central University Act, 2026.
The nominees will serve as Syndicate members for a two-year tenure.
Dhaka Central University was established in February 2026 by unifying seven government colleges in the capital.
Following its establishment as the country’s fifth autonomous university, this is the first time the government has nominated Syndicate members for the institution.
