Technically viable cells from retired telecom batteries will be repurposed into Instant Power Supply or IPS systems and deployed in selected rural schools, educational institutions and other locations with limited access to reliable electricity.
EDOTCO Bangladesh has recently partnered with Tiger Lithium Energy for the initiative, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), said a press release on Tuesday.
The programme operates under EDOTCO’s Tower to Power corporate social responsibility initiative, which retrieves viable cells from retired batteries and converts them into backup power solutions.
The initiative aims to reduce electronic waste while expanding access to reliable backup power in underserved areas, and to improve education and community well-being.
EDOTCO Bangladesh Country MD Al Batuni Mohammad Sayed Ahmed said, “At EDOTCO, sustainability means creating lasting value for both communities and the environment. Through our Tower to Power initiative, this partnership will give retired telecom batteries a second life — helping to reduce electronic waste while expanding access to reliable backup power in underserved areas.”
The Tower to Power platform has reached over 100,000 lives in Bangladesh. The initiative aligns with EDOTCO’s Environmental, Social and Governance commitments and supports United Nations Sustainable Development Goals on Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7), Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12) and Climate Action (SDG 13), said the press release.
