Agitated residents have besieged and vandalised the residence of Jashore‑4 lawmaker Golam Rasul, also the district ameer of Jamaat‑e‑Islami, following allegations of child abuse and an assault on a guardian.
The incident occurred in Nilganj Supari Bagan in Jashore town. Victims alleged that Rasul’s daughter, Mehezabin Jannat, beat several children of Al Madrasatul Shariyyah on Monday.
Tensions escalated Tuesday morning when parents confronted Jannat, during which a guardian, Roksana Begum, was reportedly struck on the head with a padlock.
Protesters later gathered outside Rasul’s home, broke the main gate in an attempt to enter, hurled stones that shattered windowpanes, and blocked the Jashore–Narail highway, causing severe traffic congestion until police intervened.
Demonstrators demanded a full investigation and legal action against both Rasul and his daughter.
Appearing on Facebook Live, Rasul claimed his daughter is mentally unstable and under medical care, apologizing for the “unwanted incident.”
Kotwali Model Police Station officer‑in‑charge Masum Khan said the situation is now under control. He added that while police are monitoring developments, no written complaint has yet been filed, and legal measures will follow once a formal case is lodged.
