The Election Commission (EC) has begun hearings on appeals filed against Returning Officers’ decisions on nomination papers for the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
During the first day of hearings, the nomination of Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Hamidur Rahman Azad, from Cox’s Bazar-2 constituency, was declared valid following his appeal.
The hearing took place on Saturday at the Election Commission Bhaban auditorium in Agargaon.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin presided over the session, with other election commissioners also in attendance. Appealing candidates and their representatives participated in the process with the required documents.
Earlier, by the deadline for filing appeals on Friday, a total of 645 applications had been submitted to the Election Commission.
According to EC sources, hearings will be conducted in phases – appeals numbered 1–70 on Saturday, 71–140 on Sunday (11 January), 141–210 on Monday (12 January), and 211–280 on Tuesday (13 January).
The EC will announce the schedule for the remaining appeals in due course.
