A report claiming that Nurul Haque Nur, president of Gono Odhikar Parishad, was served a show-cause notice and temporarily relieved of his duties has spread on social media.

Abu Hanif, the party’s higher council member and media coordinator, dismissed the claim and said the news is completely false.

In an audio message, acting secretary general Hasan Al Mamun said his signature was forged to spread a false press release aimed at damaging the party’s image. He also clarified that no such decision was taken by the party and urged people not to be misled.

Party sources said a third group may be spreading the rumour for political gain, amid recent internal tension over seat-sharing with the BNP. Abu Hanif linked the rumour to election politics, noting rising public support for Nur’s “Truck” symbol in Patuakhali-3.

Earlier, a fake notice claiming Nur’s expulsion also went viral. It alleged he violated party discipline by making unilateral decisions on seat-sharing ahead of the national election.
