Jamaat-e-Islami candidate for Kushtia-3 (Sadar) Amir Hamza has been fined of Tk10,000 for violating election code of conduct in two separate cases.
He will serve six days in jail-three days for each case-if he fails to pay the fines.
The order was issued on Tuesday by the Election Inquiry and Investigation Committee and Joint District and Sessions Judge Md Abdul Hai. Amir Hamza’s lawyer Kazi Towfiqul Islam later paid the fines on his behalf.
The court verdict followed complaints filed by Rashid Ahmed of Shantidanga village under Kushtia’s IU police station, who alleged two separate breaches of the election code on Sunday.
The allegations were found to be true after investigation.
During an on-site inspection of election areas including Mojompur Gate, Panch Rasta intersection, and Thana intersection in Kushtia Model Police Station, the court found that banners bearing Amir Hamza’s name displayed at Mojompur Gate lacked the printer’s name, address and printing date.
Amir Hamza’s lawyer Towfiqul Islam Tuhin appeared at the site and submitted a confession, admitting the omission.
Reacting to the verdict, complainant Rashid Ahmed said he was satisfied but noted that the ruling has not yet been fully implemented.
“The banners and posters are still in place,” he said, adding that he has informed the returning officer about the issue.
The court also urged political parties and candidates to strictly follow the restrictions outlined in the Election Code of Conduct, 2025.
