Election officials have filed 176 cases and imposed fines totalling Tk18.26 lakh for violations of the code of conduct ahead of 13th national parliamentary election.
On Monday Md Saiful Islam, director of operations at the National Identity Registration Wing and EC’s Central Coordination Committee member secretary, told Times of Bangladesh that field officers are taking daily action to maintain a fair electoral environment.
“Between 8 January and 1 February, executive magistrates across 257 constituencies recorded 275 incidents of code of conduct violations. The cases were filed and fines issued under election regulations to ensure compliance and deter misconduct” Saiful Islam added.
Election Commissioner Anwarul Islam Sarker said that all complaints received by the commission are immediately considered at the local level by returning officers, mobile courts, and the Electoral Inquiry and Adjudication Committee.
He added that mobile courts operate daily, registering cases, imposing fines, and issuing show-cause notices where necessary.
“The process is being actively enforced across the country,” he added.
