Midland Bank PLC has received a Mastercard-affiliated membership licence, allowing the bank to issue Mastercard credit, debit and prepaid cards and expand its digital payment offerings for customers.
The licence was formally handed over at a ceremony held at Midland Bank’s head office in Dhaka on 1 February 2026. Managing Director and CEO Md Ahsan-uz-Zaman received the licence from Syed Mohammad Kamal, Country Manager of Mastercard Bangladesh.
The partnership establishes Midland Bank as a Mastercard-affiliated member, enabling customers to access global ATM, point-of-sale and e-commerce transactions. The arrangement also opens the door to digital wallet integration, cross-border payments and other Mastercard digital services aimed at faster and more secure day-to-day banking.
Midland Bank said the move would strengthen its card and digital banking portfolio and enhance customer access to international payment networks.
Senior officials from both organisations attended the ceremony. From Midland Bank, the attendees included Deputy Managing Director and Chief Risk Officer Md Zahid Hossain, Deputy Managing Director and Head of IT and Chief Technology Officer Md Nazmul Huda Sarkar, SEVP and Head of the Institutional Banking Division Mohd Javed Tarek Khan, Head of Cards Md Abed-Ur-Rahman, and Head of Retail Distribution and Chief Bancassurance Officer Md Rashed Akter.
Mastercard was also represented by Sohail Alim, Director, alongside Country Manager Syed Mohammad Kamal.
The licence marks a further step in Midland Bank’s efforts to expand digital payment capabilities and align with global card networks as competition intensifies in Bangladesh’s banking and financial services sector.
