Sylhet International Cricket Stadium is in line to host a Test between Bangladesh and England for the first time when the two sides meet in a two-match series in February 2027, a Bangladesh Cricket Board source told TIMES of Bangladesh.
According to the source, the second Test, which is scheduled to begin February 22, could be hosted by Sylhet. The series is set to start on February 14 at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
The series will be part of the ongoing 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle, although the itinerary is yet to receive final approval.
Another source close to the development said the schedule remains subject to finalisation, while a Sylhet ground official said they had not yet received any instruction from the BCB regarding the England Test.
“So far, we are not aware of hosting England in February. However, we are ready to host the West Indies for a Test in November,” the ground official said on condition of anonymity.
Sylhet has already established itself as Bangladesh’s eighth Test venue, having hosted Test matches involving Zimbabwe, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Ireland and Pakistan. The venue is scheduled to host West Indies in November and could then welcome England in February.
England last toured Bangladesh for a Test series in 2016. The visitors won the first Test in Chattogram by 22 runs before Bangladesh secured their first Test victory over England in the second match in Mirpur, winning by 108 runs.
In the current World Test Championship cycle, Bangladesh are fourth with three wins, two defeats and one draw from six Tests. They have 40 points and a points percentage of 55.56.
England are sixth, with seven wins, eight defeats and one draw from 17 Tests. They have 74 points and a points percentage of 38.54.
