On the first day of the election campaign, Jamaat-e-Islami will hold a grand rally in Dhaka-15 constituency on Thursday afternoon. The party has organised a rally at the Adarsha School ground in Mirpur around 2pm.

The party announced that its Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman along with leaders of the 10-party alliance will attend the event. The rally venue falls within Shafiqur’s own constituency, Dhaka-15.

At the same time, Jamaat candidates across the country will also begin electioneering in their respective areas.

Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary General Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair announced that Shafiqur will tour northern districts on 23 and 24 January.

Starting from Panchagarh, the programme will include major roadside rallies and events in Dinajpur, Thakurgaon and Rangpur on 23 January. Along the way, he will exchange views with people in key towns and marketplaces.

On 24 January, in Rangpur, the Jamaat Ameer will visit the grave of Abu Sayeed, the first martyr of the July uprising, and meet his family members.

He will then address rallies in Palashbari (Gaibandha), Bogura, Sherpur, Ullapara in Sirajganj, and finally in Pabna. After completing the northern tour, he will return to Dhaka.

Back in the capital, on 25 January, he will take part in rallies in Dhaka-5, Dhaka-6 and Dhaka-7 constituencies. The party said further programmes will be announced soon after consultations with local units.
